Italian Red and White Fine Wine Pair

Planeta Chardonnay, Sicily– The Planeta winery was established in the mid-80s and has quickly risen to fame as one of the most exciting producers in Italy and is responsible to helping catapult Sicilian wines into the limelight. Aromas of peach, golden apple, white figs, vanilla cream, and meringue mingle with overtones of hazelnut and honey. The oak influence is subtle and well-integrated. Soft, round and concentrated on the palate; the fruit flavours are wonderfully balanced by a powerful streak of acidity and rich mineral character.

Capezzana Ghiave della Furba, Toscana – The estate lies 24km North West of Florence and the grapes for this wine are grown on the alluvial valley of the Furba River. The south/south-west facing vineyards are situated approximately 150-200m above sea level. Notes of black cherries, sage, chocolate, cassis and new leather on the nose that give way to opulent rich fruit in the mouth. This is a huge, brooding red that will reward a few years’ ageing while its tannins melt into the fruit and the finely integrated oak.
